Secondment Programmes

Applied Research and Policy 
Secondees join our applied research and policy team to produce applied, data-driven insights on financial innovation, digital financial services and regulation. Work may include designing and conducting research, analysing data, drafting publications and policy briefs, and sharing findings with financial authorities and other stakeholders. 

Strategy and Advisory 
Secondees support Fii's work with policymakers and financial authorities as they respond to technology-driven change in financial markets. Work may include developing policy and regulatory assessment, contributing to strategy and reform processes, and advising partners on approaches to regulatory and supervisory innovation. 

Technical Assistance and Capacity-Building
Secondees help deliver hands-on support to financial authorities in emerging and developing economies. Work may include designing and delivering technical assistance programmes, capacity-building and training activities, deploying digital tools and platforms, and monitoring and evaluating results. 

• Application or nomination: Individuals can apply for a current opportunity or send an expression of interest at any time, as set out in the ‘How to apply’ section below. Partner organisations can also nominate candidates. Individuals applying directly will need the support of their employer. 

• Selection: For current opportunities, the hosting team reviews applications, interviews shortlisted candidates, and selects the secondee. For expressions of interest, we will contact you if a suitable opportunity arises, and invite you to an interview with the relevant team. 

• Agreement: Fii sends a Secondment Agreement to the secondee's home organisation for signature. The agreement sets out the terms of the secondment, financial arrangements, and conflict of interest guidelines. 

• Appointment: Once both parties have signed the agreement, the secondee receives a letter confirming their assignment. 

• Onboarding: At the start of the assignment, secondees attend an induction and are paired with a manager to help them settle into Fii's work and culture. 

• Secondees can be part- or full-time employees of the partner organisation at the time of appointment, and continue to receive their salary and benefits from that organisation.

• Applicants should have a reasonable level of English language proficiency. 

• Fluency in another other language would be an advantage. 

• Relevant experience work with some of the countries Fii is working or have worked on is an advantage. 

• All appointments are subject to background checks, which may cover employment, education and criminal record.  

• Secondments usually last 6 months to 1 year, but could be extended. 

• The partner organisation continues to pay the secondee's salary and benefits directly. 

• Secondees do not receive a salary, stipend or grant from Fii. 

• Fii covers the cost of work-related travel and operational expenses. 

• Secondees are eligible to attend internal Fii training.
